Father and Son Moose Hunt

I’ve been taking the Hunter/Shooter survey for some time now and always enjoy seeing the photos in the blog. I thought I’d pass along a couple from a recent hunting trip for you to use if you’d like.
This is my dad and I. Several years ago he started bugging me to look into a moose hunt for the two of us. I put him off for a long time because he’s retired and I still have a family to feed. As he approached his 70th birthday in 2010, I got the bright idea that not only would a moose hunt be the perfect gift, but it would also insure that I wouldn’t regret not making the trip with my dad somewhere down the road.
We presented him with the confirmation letter from our outfitter at his 70th birthday party and told him he had about a year to get ready. My only regret is that I didn’t have someone pointing a camera at his face when I told him what his gift was. His expression was priceless.
In Sept 2011, we traveled to Newfoundland from our home in upstate NY and met up with Portland Creek Outfitters, who did an outstanding job of making our trip a success. At 9am on the second morning of the hunt, I downed my bull. I was using a 60 year-old Remington model 760 pump in .30-06 topped with a $25 scope. The combination got the job done nicely. Less than 3 minutes later, my guide and I heard the report from dad’s Benelli semi-auto in .300 Win Mag. Harvesting our bulls within minutes of each other that morning was the icing on the cake!
Thanks for all that you guys do to benefit the hunting/shooting sports. I look forward to continuing to participate in your survey for years to come.
